Job Description:
General Objectives:
Reporting to the Sr. Accountant, the Accounts Payable Technician typically works a 4 on/3 off schedule. The Accounts Payable/Payroll Technician is responsible for preparing and processing accounts payables and payroll. Account for and maintain records and serve as data input and forms processor to complete daily tasks.
Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:
The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Serve as the point of contact for assigned vendors
  • Maintain all vendor files, including W9 forms and other necessary documents
  • Act as a resource for the department in resolving invoice issues such as discrepancies related to quantity, price, period of time, vendor name and address, receiving, and initiate corrections. Ensure timely payments to avoid late fees; assist in the development of procedures and recommend changes to existing procedures
  • Responsible for processing invoices and check requests
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of vendor accounts
  • Audit expense reimbursement reports to insure accountability for all expenses
  • Computes wages and salaries, deductions, taxes, and other withholdings. Reviews, edits and makes corrections and adjustments as needed
  • Posts payroll data and prepares routine reports and/or payments to government agencies, insurance companies, and others
  • Calculates and processes special checks
  • Assists in the review of time sheet records submitted by all departments to ensure conformance with Company policies and procedures
  • Assists in processing check register, reconciliation, and balancing of payroll
  • Inputs hours worked. Verifies employee pay changes and computer file data
  • Reviews and edits documents, corrects errors, and assists in balancing payroll for each pay period.
  • Assists in the calculations and processing of retroactive payments, wage assignments, retirements, deferred compensation, and leave payout
  • Perform other accounting assignments, such as preparation of spreadsheets relating to payroll
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in English, using all standard forms of business communication
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in an unsupervised environment
  • This role requires frequent interaction with department employees, supervision, management and vendors on a regular basis
  • Ability to build trust and develop great working relationships with site personnel
  • Ability to act as an effective change agent
  • Ability to interact with all departments or groups as needed, for problem resolution
Required Experience:
  • Experience working in accounts payable and payroll preferred
  • Experience working with computerized accounting and payroll systems preferred
  • Strong Excel skills preferred
  • 3 years of experience preferred
