Labourer I, River Valley Parks & Facilities

The River Valley & Horticulture Section of the Community & Recreation Facilities Branch is looking for motivated labourers to support the team with maintaining our city’s beautiful River Valley parks and facilities. You will perform a mix of indoor and outdoor tasks, and use your janitorial and labour skills. You will succeed if you can maintain clean and safe facilities in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.

What will you do?

• Complete daily janitorial duties throughout River Valley facilities and parks
• Maintain ski trails, ice surfaces and toboggan hills
• Clear walkways, facilities and trails of debris and snow
• Sand slippery trails, walkways and facility entrances
• Collect refuse in parks and on trails
• Provide excellent customer service to patrons
• Operate some equipment and complete minor maintenance
• Perform security checks on assigned premises
• Complete other related duties as required

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent

Assets:

• Janitorial or facility maintenance experience
• Previous experience maintaining cross country ski trails and/or outdoor ice surfaces
• Air brakes (Q) certification or equivalent
• Experience operating a water truck, plow truck, broom and/or snowmobile

Skills required for success:

• Ability to understand and complete oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions
• Must be physically capable of performing duties, including repetitive bending and lifting of large items (for example, garbages and picnic tables)

Conditions of Employment:

• Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is required
• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is required

Work Environment:

• Operational hours for this position are from 0500-2400 every day. Ability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, and adapt to changing shift schedules is required

Up to 30 temporary part-time positions for up to 8 months

Hours of Work: Up to 39 hours per week. Shifts are subject to changes based on operational requirements

Salary: $22.072 - $30.606 (hourly)
