Duties

  • Apply a variety of standardized methods, procedures and techniques to install, maintain and repair mechanical equipment structures, systems, and landscaping.
  • Inspect electrical items such as, but not limited to, circuit breakers and fuses for proper condition and size, replacing defective breakers; tightens connections in circuit breakers, distribution panels, light switches, outlets and light fixtures.
  • Fabricate and repair equipment utilizing standard metal working techniques to cut, bend, clamp, and weld mild steel, aluminum, and stainless.
  • Perform common plumbing tasks to repair, replace, and maintain pumps, valves, faucets, waterlines, hoses, hydrants, toilets, and water heaters.
  • Install, repair, replace, and maintain such things as roofs, including metal flashing, gutters, and other roofing accessories.
  • Maintain project water supply and sewage facilities.
  • Repair or replace pumps, valves, faucets, broken waterlines, hand pumps and hydrants; sets pressure gauges on water pumps and pressure tanks.
  • Operate, maintain and repair equipment such as but not limited to pick-up truck, dump truck equipped with a pintle hitch and pulling heavy equipment trailer (which may require a Class A Commercial Driver’s License).
  • Maintain, repair, modify for accessibility, and occasionally constructs structures of concrete, block, and occasionally brick or other related materials.
  • Knowledge of coating methods, techniques, devices, and materials, and how they are used to get a variety of finish results on various kinds of surfaces.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair equipment such as but not limited to skid steer, and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).
  • Operate, maintain, and repair equipment such as but not limited to skid steer, lawn tractor, forklift, lawn and snow removal equipment, and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and chainsaws.
  • Operate a motorboat (less 26 feet) in all seasons and in all weather. May include buoy and line installation and maintenance, emergency operations, dock maintenance, and drift removal.
  • Is a vital team member supporting the flood risk management mission by operating and maintaining dams, monitoring lake and river conditions, and executing gate adjustments required to effectively manage local water resource.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator’s Certification including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment.
  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to perform duties of position issued by the state of residence.
  • Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. Incumbent must be able to lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Incumbent is required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform wildfire suppression duties.
  • Must be able to be called back any time of day during emergencies and for critical operations and maintenance and may be required to work overtime.
  • Must be able to perform all duties in all weather conditions, e.g., extreme cold.
  • Note: Drug test, pre-employment, annual medical surveillance required.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker (MVO) without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common duties as a maintenance worker. Perform carpentry work machinery repair, sandblasting, painting, pipefitting, welding, roofing, inspections, concrete maintenance and repair. Operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, motorboats and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repairs, replacement or creation of projects. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee work reviews my work for completion.

  • Physical Effort: Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position as identified in the position description. Duties include, but are not limited, to climbing ladders and steep stairways and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs. unassisted or up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 lbs. while working alone include, but are not limited, to lifting and carrying a 50-lb bag of seed, gravel, or stone and lifting and carrying a 5-gallon can of kerosene, paint, cleaning liquid, or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include, but are not limited, to moving furniture and lifting 80-lb. bags of cement.
  • Working Conditions: Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on, but not limited, to scaffolding, high ladders, or rooftops subject to dangers such as, but not limited to, falling, possibility of burns, cuts, bruises, broken bones, or infections. Works inside and outside while exposed to all weather conditions to perform duties including, but not limited, to surveillance of project, various inspections, operations and maintenance of equipment, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors, and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions, which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
