The Opportunity
We are currently looking for adept machine learning scientists/engineers who are hungry to trailblaze enterprise AI adoption with expertise in compact large language models and low-touch deployment on distributed infrastructure. About the Team
As a potential job applicant, joining Nutanix AI (NAI) team means becoming a part of a diverse and globally distributed team. With approximately 15 team members in India, 6 in the USA, and 1 in Serbia, you will be exposed to a rich cultural tapestry of perspectives and experiences. The team culture at NAI is one of collaboration and meritocracy, where individuals work collectively on key projects such as GPT-in-a-Box, SupportGPT, CodeGen, and Root Cause Analysis. NAI is also at the forefront of cutting-edge research and development, with publications in top ML conferences like Neurips and involvement in important open-source benchmarking initiatives like MLCommons and KubeFlow.
You will report to a seasoned Staff Data Scientist who will provide mentorship and guidance as you navigate through your responsibilities. The work setup at Nutanix AI is a hybrid model, offering a blend of in-office collaboration and remote work flexibility. As a new hire, you will be expected to be in the office for 3 days a week, ensuring that you have the opportunity to engage with your team and foster strong working relationships. Additionally, there are no significant travel requirements for this role, allowing you to focus on making impactful contributions to the team's projects and goals.
Your Role
- Build data/ETL pipelines for training and fine tuning LLMs
- Perform supervised fine tuning and instruction-tuning of open-source Generative AI models such as LLaMA-2 for a variety of downstream tasks such as Question Answering
- Setup inference endpoints and MLOPs workflow for iterative model performance tuning
- Submit in industry-standard benchmarking organizations such as MLCommons
- Set up LangChain pipeline including prompt engineering and parsing
- Develop custom pre-trained LLMs based on internal data
- Collaborate with internal teams for data engineering and building custom models and optimizations
What You Will Bring
- Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related fields
- Up to 3 years industry experience in large-scale ML model development.
- NLP and LLM model development experience is a strong plus.
- Expert in Python especially in AI/ML libraries such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Sklearn, LLM tools such as Spacy, and data engineering tools such as Pandas, Numpy, Spark
- Hands-on MLOps skills such as feature engineering, data formatting, deployment, monitoring
- In-depth knowledge of deep learning learning algorithms especially for NLP and LLM
- Familiarity with open source LLM ecosystem such as Hugging Face and LangChain
- Proficient in at least one of the system-level languages such as C/C++, Java, Golang and Data Structures and Algorithms for improving computational efficiency
- Demonstrated track record of prior open source contribution is a significant plus
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 100,000 and USD $ 200,400 per year.
However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. For most roles, that will mean coming into an office a minimum of 2 - 3 days per week, however certain roles and/or teams may require more frequent in-office presence. Additional team-specific guidance and norms will be provided by your manager.
