TITLE: Nature Center Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Recreation and Community Services- Plainsboro Preserve
RATE OF PAY: $25/per hours– up to 20 hours per week
DUTIES DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for implementing, helping to train volunteers in the Citizen Science Programs (Nest Watch,
Feeder Watch)
Keeping track and submitting various Wildlife Permits with State and Federal Governments.
Overseeing Front desk attendants and volunteers.
Assist with overseeing Animal Care volunteers
Support the Recreation Department and Preserve events, staff tables, exhibits, and special programs as
needed.
Assist with teaching larger group programs when needed.
Assist the Program Coordinator with a quarterly newsletter, including proofing newsletter and online
registration.
Coordinate staff monthly schedules.
Articulate Preserve as well as the Recreation and Community Services Department mission and project a
helpful and positive attitude when interacting with the public.
Assist with writing newsletter articles, monthly reports, and annual reports
Oversee monthly water quality testing (with the Watershed Institute)
Answering phones, as needed, and answering questions about programs including Preserve scheduled
presentations, camps, lectures, hikes; field natural history questions from the public, and direct questions
to appropriate experts.
Help coordinate and perform seasonal outdoor grounds and facilities maintenance.
Provide or assist with first aid and emergency care as needed.
Maintain positive working relationships with other Preserve staff, volunteers, and Township staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in natural science, environmental education, or a related field..
Knowledge of and passion for the natural world.
Enthusiastic, energetic, outgoing, patient, and flexible when working with the public.
Willingness and ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and terrain.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with
minimal supervision.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and make decisions requiring good judgment without
specific directions.
Comfortable handling or learning to handle reptiles and invertebrates.
Ability to communicate effectively and interact well on the phone and in writing.
Ability to walk all the trails of Preserve and climb one flight of stairs and lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Mastery of Microsoft Office and common office equipment. Able to learn new computer programs. E-mail
and internet skills required. Experience with data entry/registration software a plus.
Criminal history background checks will be required, consistent with all applicable laws
Currently be eligible to work in the USA.
Valid Driver's license and personal transportation.
Must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 by start date (reasonable accommodations will be considered on a
case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law).
