As an Apprentice Plumber in the Construction group you will be learning all aspects of the installation process while continuing your education.
Job functions and duties(other duties may be assigned)
Apprentice I- School year 1 and 2
This would require indentured to the State of Utah and enrollment in a qualified apprenticeship program.
General areas of performance:
  • Entry level pipe installation (gas, water, drainage, and mechanical)
  • Shoot grade and elevation math
  • Set Finish fixtures
  • Entry level plan reading
  • Operation of a threading/groove machine
  • Train Laborers
Apprentice II- School year 3 and 4
General areas of performance:
  • Help Install Mechanical equipment (boilers, chillers, pumps, etc)
  • General pipefitting (for welded pipe)
  • Operate Forklift and lifts and obtain necessary certifications
  • Train Laborers and Apprentice I’s.
Must show competency in:
  • Customer relations
  • Ability to read plans and do a take off
  • Familiarity with Scope of work and the contract
  • Identification when a change order or RFI is needed

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Attending a qualified apprenticeship program.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages, as well as draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
  • Valid driver's license

  • Specific vision abilities include the ability to see well up close and at a distance, the ability to distinguish colors, good peripheral vision and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position requires working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms and in possible extreme weather conditions.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock (high voltage) and vibration.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Work Availability and Requirements
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Regular travel requirements with some overnight travel.
