Assistant Ranger

We've got an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Ranger to join our team. With a love for the great outdoors, you’ll enjoy working with nature and want to inspire and motivate others. You’ll help to make habitats for wildlife better and make everyone feel welcome at our places.

This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the important work we’re doing. As part of the Lengthsperson team, you’ll need to think about our impact on the environment and how you can help.

This role is an hourly paid, fixed term role. Wherever possible we aim to offer a consistent working pattern, but we’re looking for flexibility as it may be necessary for us to alter this pattern from time to time to suit the needs of the business. We’d give you as much notice of this as possible. You'll be required to work some weekends and occasional evenings.

What it's like to work here:Reporting to the Head Lengthsperson, you'll be joining a team of 7 Rangers.

You'll be based at the Navigations Office in Guildford, but you'll be working anywhere along the 20 miles of waterway between Godalming and Weybridge.

What you'll be doing:As Assistant Ranger, you’ll undertake different task in countryside management. This will include site inspections, routine practical maintenance, monitoring of wildlife habitats, supporting volunteers, and helping to deliver activities that strengthen people’s connections with the outdoors. You'll support the team with property presentation, this involves strimming, mowing and general upkeep. You'll also support with weir operations and water level monitoring.

No two days are the same and the nature of the role means a flexible approach is crucial, to ensure the right level of support is given across the site. Whether you’re maintaining our green spaces or talking to people, you’ll inspire others to love our beautiful places as much as you do.
