CRYOGENE Labs in San Antonio Texas is currently seeking a Biorepository Laboratory Technician.
Overview
This position will report to the Operations Manager and is responsible for all biorepository activities to be executed accurately while following quality procedures. This position performs a broad range of laboratory activities related to and in support of freezing, storing, inventorying, packaging, and shipping biological materials, therapeutics, and clinical agents.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performs receipt and inventory management of biological materials (including therapeutic drug products), data entry, relocation, retrieval, packaging and logistics operations according to standard operating procedures.
- Direct correspondence with clients for scheduling, inventory and addressing concerns or issues
- Processing incoming materials for storage and distribution
- Visually inspecting specimens for quality and data accuracy, performing accurate data entry into electronic tracking system
- Preparation of frozen cord blood units and testing segments for shipment to transplant centers utilizing aseptic technique and universal precautions
- Proficiency in the use of appropriate temperature dependent shipping vessels depending on client's requirements
- Working closely with supervisors to support customer inquiries, such as discrepancies in shipments and inventory maintenance
- Updating the client's computer database with results of shipments, cutting segments and reference samples. Updating the records for refusals and discarded non-conforming units
- Responsibility for ongoing inventory of samples including reviewing documentation, data entry and labeling as necessary
- Proper use of any temperature monitoring equipment as per CRYOGENE procedures
- Reporting incidents (monitoring equipment failures, transport delays, discrepancies) to CRYOGENE management
- Compliance with quality system practices
- Ensuring project work areas are kept clean and free of any possible safety hazards
- Understanding and use of the inventory management, temperature monitoring, and site infrastructure systems
- Working around hazardous substances and following all safety guidelines to minimize exposure
- Assuring compliance to cGMP requirements and company quality systems
- Ensuring all job-related paperwork is correct, error-free, and completed in real time as per SOPs
- Performing any tasks that may be necessary to execute specific projects
- Undertaking any other additional duties as requested by the Operations Manager
This position may require periodic evening work, as necessary, to ensure cryorepository operation quality and service standards.
May also require the use of hazardous chemicals and materials, including liquid nitrogen, dry ice, human tissue and body fluids, such as blood.
Handling of human specimens may result in possible blood borne pathogen exposure. CRYOGENE has specific safety methods to reduce employee exposure to hazardous agents.

- Preparing various reports and logs, scanning manufacturing and shipping records to create electronic documents for batch records.
- Any related duties as assigned
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Biological Sciences OR an Associates Degree with two years’ related laboratory experience
Compensation: $20.00 hr.
