Position Overview:

The Town of Castle Rock has an outstanding opportunity for a Court Technician in our Municipal Court Division. This position assists with operations of the Municipal Court. Performs complex clerical work requiring knowledge of regulations, policies, procedures and laws governing the Municipal Court. Prepares Municipal Court case files and documents; interprets and communicates regarding policies and procedures; and schedules hearings. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the accuracy of citations within the Town’s Court computer system and troubleshoots any inconsistencies. Records case information into the Court’s official records. Prepares and issues Court papers, making official authorizations in the Court’s name.
  • Provides assistance to the public, including advising individuals involved with the Court of their rights and possible penalties. Continues hearing dates and sentencing-related items.
  • Monitors cases for compliance with Court orders and deferred plea agreements.
  • Serves as Court Clerk during Municipal Court sessions. Checks in defendants and ensures they have been advised of their rights. Enters motions, judge’s orders and other requirements into the Court computer system. Checks out defendants, including explaining sentencing requirements and forms.
  • Accepts and processes payments. Balances a cash drawer. When necessary, sends cases to collections for nonpayment.
  • Enters bench warrants, protection orders and other items into the Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC). Prepares Failure to Appear, Failure to Pay and Failure to comply warrants in the scheduled bond amount and enters these into the CCIC.
  • In cases where defendants have received deferred judgments, reviews criminal history records, including researching the disposition of cases with other courts as required. Processes revocations of deferred judgments and/or clears CCIC records for defendants.
  • Receives bond or surety payments. Prepares applicable paperwork and communicates compliance procedures to defendants. Processes bond revocations in compliance with State Statutes.
  • Processes paperwork with the Division of Motor Vehicles and the Castle Rock Police Department when warrants or other items are cleared.
  • Coordinates with arresting agencies when defendants are picked up on warrants. When necessary, coordinates when the defendant can be transported to Court.
  • Prepares Courtroom for Court and cleans up after Court.
  • Performs routine clerical functions including copying, filing, mail pick-up and scanning.
  • May assist with community programs offered by the Court.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.


Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. College-level course work in criminal justice, legal secretary or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Previous customer service experience. Ability to type 40 words per minute is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work for long periods of time
  • Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens

Work Environment:

  • Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment

Equipment Used:

  • Uses general modern office equipment, to include, keyboard, 10-key adding machines, and telephones
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
