Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Disability Services Clerk will assist in the daily operations of the Disability Services Center; perform general office clerical duties, including receptionist duties, such as answering the phone, taking messages, and assisting the students visiting the Disability Services Center. Other responsibilities include maintaining records and files, perform filing, perform word processing and data entry, type forms, letters, and reports, collect data, process incoming and outgoing mail, and assist in maintaining inventory. Additional responsibilities include maintaining security and proper care of equipment and books.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


  • Ensures the confidentiality of all student records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally in writing.
  • Interacts effectively and professionally with the general public.
  • Must possess good telephone techniques and etiquette.
  • Explains, assists and guides students with the application for services process.
  • Ensures security and maintenance of students’ files, books, and equipment.
  • Verifies and checks student data for accuracy including holds for book and equipment loans.
  • Ability to plan and organize work as well as attention to detail.
  • Performs campus?wide accessibility checks.
  • Able to work with electronic data management systems
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Disability Services Counselor or Director of Counseling and Disability Services.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Work experience in a disability services setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to communicate in a positive, supportive, effective, professional manner when interacting with students, parents, staff, supervisor, faculty, and community members in person, by phone or online; must show initiative and a cooperative attitude.
  • Must be able to observe deadlines while setting priorities; must have good typing skills; must maintain inventory of assistive devices equipment: must maintain accurate and complete student records and for the security of student records; confidentiality is necessary.
  • Sufficient skills to operate a calculator, copy and fax machine, personal computers and printers.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment.
Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Special Conditions
Immediate supervisor may assign other duties.
May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed.
