Job Summary
The Event Technician/Venue Rep reports to the Memorial Hall Production Manager and will coordinate and perform a broad range of technical functions connected to the planning, set up, and implementation of live events and performances. This position receives minimal supervision. The majority of productions and events will take place at night and on weekends, so the ability to work a varied schedule of evenings, weekends, and holidays is required. This position has a 21 hour/week 10 month/year schedule with two months off in the summer.
Position Description
Technical Systems Support: 60%
- Oversee the successful use of Memorial Hall/Lowell Hall technical components in service to a variety of live performance events
- Assist the Production Manager in maintaining theatrical lighting equipment, audio systems, and pianos in Sanders Theatre and Lowell Hall
- Maintain documentation; offer suggestions for documentation update as needed
- Train student producers and technicians and other clients on appropriate use of production equipment
Operations Support 20%
- Monitor and support stage operations, including setup, strikes, and changeovers, equipment load-ins and load outs, furniture set ups and strikes, piano moves and tunings
- Set up and/or strike basic stage equipment for classes, lectures, rehearsals, and performances before or after events including blackboards, lecterns, chairs, music stands, tables, pianos, and percussion instruments
- Run the piano and wheelchair lifts
- As a source of support and information for organizations using the spaces within the Complex, the position guides venue users in executing events and communicates/enforces building policies
- Provide access to spaces within the complex; advise on use of the lighting and audio systems
Event House Coordination 10%
- Coordinate efforts of producers, Harvard Box Office staff, ushers, security staff, custodial staff, and technical staff in assuring swift and safe seating of audience, timely start of performance, and safe, clean, and comfortable conditions for patrons and performers both inside and outside the building.
Support Production Manager 10%
- In production-planning process, including scheduling labor, interfacing with vendors
- Assist with special projects
Basic Qualifications
- 2-3 years of equivalent professional experience in use of theatrical audio/visual and rigging systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of the practical applications of production equipment and production standards, including electrical, audio-visual, and rigging systems
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Previous experience in a university setting
- Working knowledge of Office 360 and CAD (AutoCAD/Vectorworks)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. overhead
- Ability to work at heights, including but not limited to catwalks, theatrical grids, ladders
- Ability to work flexible and irregular hours, sometimes for extended periods of time
- Familiarity with ETC control consoles/equipment
- Familiarity with Networking (LAN, Dante, ETCnet and other production networks)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well independently and with others essential
- Demonstrated ability and experience to work with students, professionals, and the public
- professional experience working with artists of varied disciplines
- Knowledge of music performance practices desirable
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds

- Paid Time Off: 3-4 weeks of accrued vacation time per year (3 weeks for support staff and 4 weeks for administrative/professional staff), 12 accrued sick days per year, 12.5 holidays plus a Winter Recess in December/January, 3 personal days per year (prorated based on date of hire), and up to 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents who are primary care givers.
