Job Purpose

To supervise various facets of forestry operations and forest management. May include forest development, silviculture, harvesting, road construction and planning.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • As a member of our operations team, reporting to the Operations Superintendent, you will

    • Be a self-motivated and high performing individual with a bias for action and safe work habits
    • Demonstrate a commitment to our safety culture by actively participating in the Safety Program and performing all duties in accordance with safety rules, regulations, and policies.
    • Managing activities associated with harvesting, including supervision of logging, road construction, and log quality.
    • Ensure all harvesting and road construction activities are conducted in compliance with applicable Safety and Health Requirements, forestry legislation, LP's Environmental Policy, Sustainable Forestry Principles, and Best Forestry Management Practices.
    • Assist with harvest and road construction budgets and managing costs within your specific responsibilities.
    • Assisting with initiating and maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, Indigenous communities, government agencies and stakeholders.
    • Provide support on the implementation and maintenance of the Swan Valley’s forest certification program, as required.
    • Participating in other projects as requested.

What do I need to be successful?

    • Minimum 3 years forestry experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
    • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
    • Safety Conscious.
    • Experience in supervising forestry operations.
    • Excellent leadership, communication & project management skills, with the ability to work within a team environment.
    • Excellent working knowledge of applicable Manitoba Forestry legislation and policies.
    • Physically fit and capable of offsite fieldwork
    • Proficient in using a computer & related software and forestry applications including GIS.

Education

  • University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry or Environmental Studies.

Work Environment

  • Fieldwork is an essential part of this role, position duties will involve a blend of time in the field and office-related responsibilities.
