Forklift Operator

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. • Drive gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials throughout the grounds.
• Participate constructively to the movement and warehousing of products to ensure the Business Unit can meet customer requirements for superior products in the safest and service-oriented manner available.
• Move levers and press pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus
• Position forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hook tow trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area or truck
• Unload and stack material by raising and lowering lifting device
• Inventory materials on work floor, tallies product and maintains stock rotation
• Load or unloads materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or lifting device
• Perform preoperational checks on forklifts and reports any/all service and operational concerns
• Participate in the quarterly inventory audit
• Load or unload materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or trucks
• Communicate regularly with other team members and participates in team effort in work area

• High school diploma or GED; Minimum two years related sawmill / planer experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Possess a current forklift operator’s license, or be able to provide proof of previous forklift operator’s license
• Ability to operate a hand-held calculator, preferred
• While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk; use hands, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate
• Regularly use arms and legs to get into and out of forklift multiple times a day
• Use hands, wrists, and arms to operate forklift and use legs and feet to push forklift pedals
• May frequently be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• This job requires eye and hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety vest, safety shoes, fall protection and hard hat
• The work environment is generally loud in noise and will be exposed to inclement weather including harsh hot/cold conditions dust, dirt, grease and machine noise

• While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate
• Subject to varying weather conditions including rain, snow, ice, wind, heat and cold
• The employee must be able to get use arms and legs to lift and descend themselves on and off a lift multiple times throughout the day.
• Regularly use hands and wrists to operator levers and steering wheel as well as use feel and ankles to operate pedals
• The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, and vibration and frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles
