We are looking for a Head of Strategic Commissioning with the expertise, experience and drive to lead and deliver the City & Hackney Public Health Commissioning Strategy. You will work closely with the Director of Public Health to develop and implement cross-cutting plans to improve the health and wellbeing of our local communities, through the delivery of high quality commissioned services. You will be responsible for managing the commissioning of Public Health services from start to finish, providing the Service (and partners) with leadership and technical expertise across the entire commissioning cycle. You will lead a team of procurement and contract management specialists; work collaboratively with Public Health Consultants and Specialists/Practitioners; and provide specialist advice and support to the whole service, to ensure that commissioning best practice is followed at all times, in support of the Service’s strategic objectives.

Successful candidates will have leadership, senior management experience and technical expertise across all stages of the commissioning cycle and procurement process. You will also have an in-depth knowledge of public health, and a proven track record of communicating and working effectively in partnership. You will be familiar with NHS, local authority, primary care and voluntary sector provisions relating to the commissioning and delivery of services and experience of leading and managing teams within a flexible work environment along with demonstrated experience in supporting staff to perform at their best, and to develop their potential.

As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our goals as an organisation.

Closing date for applications: 03 August 2025 (22.59)

Interview and assessment date: 21 August 2025

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
