Job summary
To actively assist in the delivery of individual programmes of care under direction of qualified nursing staff
To participate as an effective member of the nursing team.
To follow instructions and report changes.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
1.Adhere to policies and procedures and contribute to their development
2.Ensure employment of effective risk management
3.Assist in the implementation of evidence based care in the ward/department.
4.Support the unit manager in meeting aims and objectives.
5.Identify any changes to working practice that would enhance the care of patients and report to the senior nurse.
6.Understand the importance of and maintain privacy and dignity and choice for patients at all times.
7.Understand the importance of disclaimer forms and the handling of patients valuables.
8.Understand the need for effective communication and carry this out effectively ensuring qualified nursing staff are informed of any changes in the condition of circumstances of the patient.
9.Participate in service development as requested.
10.Maintain and clean equipment as necessary, accessing systems in place for equipment repairs etc.
11.Ensuring stores and nursing documentation are stored appropriately and kept topped up.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.
Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Willing to undertake the Care certificate or NVQ 2 in health.
1. Previous experience caring for individuals and an understanding of their needs.
2. Ability to follow instructions and use initiative within sphere of responsibility.
3. Good communication skills
1. Good command and understanding of English language.
2. Awareness of the varying needs of patients admitted to the unit.
3. Competent in the usage of equipment under supervision.
4. Good telephone manner
1. A willingness to work flexibly
2. Ability to work in a busy environment.
3. Ability to prioritise clinical workload effectively
4. The ability to develop effective and supportive working relationships with colleagues
