Our Brucejack Gold Mine, a high-grade underground mine in beautiful northern British Columbia, is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Stewart. Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. Purpose
Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator-Lead Hand with a competitive hourly rate of $60.55. The position's primary report is to the Brucejack Operations Supervisors. The purpose of this position is to assist the surface operations supervisor by providing guidance and support to a crew of operators at the Brucejack Mine. While leading by example, the Heavy Equipment Lead Hand Operator will address operational questions, concerns and processes in the field and direct operations as required in a safe and efficient manner.
The position also ensures compliance with all Newmont Health& Safety and other relevant policies and regulations.
Essential Duties
Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrated experience on multiple pieces of heavy equipment (i.e., backhoes, bulldozers, rock trucks, loaders, graders& excavators) combined with 5 years' experience in a mining, industrial or commercial setting with project specific equipment.

- Lead, Direct and Mentor Equipment Operators and Labourers
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, rock trucks, loaders, and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and operations activities in a skilled, safe and efficient manner
- Operate bulldozers, snowcats, or other heavy equipment to build or maintain roads on surface
- Operate heavy equipment to move, load and unload cargo using rigging practices, forks and forklifts and the ability to assess loads and read load limit charts
- Complete safe work tasks, Job Hazard Analysis, Field Level Hazard Assessments, ground disturbance permits and assess work sites
- Ensure that pre-operational inspections on equipment are completed and paperwork is in order
- Prepare working area and adhere to all job safety requirements prior to starting work, keeping work site safe and free of hazards
- Supervise, guide and mentor operators at waste-rock dump and quarry locations.
- Inspect dump areas and reporting all relevant issues that might arise
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment being operated
- Participate in any other site-specific training
- Participate in Standard Operating Procedure updates and reviews
- Perform other related duties as required.
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrated experience on multiple pieces of heavy equipment (i.e., backhoes, bulldozers, rock trucks, loaders, graders& excavators) combined with 5 years' experience in a mining, industrial or commercial setting with project specific equipment.
- Heavy equipment operator certification would be an asset
- 5 + years of Heavy equipment experience (Class 1 an asset)
- Previous camp experience
- Successful completion of high school, college or industry related courses in heavy equipment operating combined with on- the-job training
- Certification in workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS)
- TDG - transportation of dangerous goods
- Internal company certification or sign off may be required
- First Aid training is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (English)
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
