Contract Type: Fixed term for September 2025
Hours of Work: 10-15 for the full contract (Please see below for set dates/times that are required)
Salary: £12.60 per hour

About the role:
Are you passionate about York’s beautiful city and our campus? Do you want to help international students learn more about their new city and University? We are looking for Mandarin speaking tour guides to help lead our Campus and City Tours for International Students during Welcome Week!
Required Dates:
Applicants must be able to attend and lead at least two tours in person (dates listed below).
Campus Tours:
- Monday 15th September, 13:00 - 14:00
- Wednesday 17th September, 11:00 - 12:00
- Friday 19th September, 11:00 - 12:00
- Monday 22nd September, 11:00 - 12:00
City Tours:
- Tuesday 16th September, 13:00 - 14:30
- Wednesday 17th September, 13:00 - 14:30
- Thursday 18th September, 13:00 - 14:30
- Tuesday 23rd September, 13:00 - 14:30
The other hours of work will include induction, training and preparation. Applicants must also be able to attend one of the following two training sessions, either online or in person:
- Tuesday 9th September, 13:00 - 15:00
- Wednesday 10th September, 10:00 - 12:00
Role Overview:
As an International Student Tour Guide, you will play a key role in welcoming new international students to the University of York. You will lead campus and city-centre tours, provide insights into student life, and help new students navigate their new environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead campus tours for new international students in Mandarin
- Provide information about where to find University facilities, services, and resources.
- Lead city tours showing key places in the city centre, exploring York’s culture, history and social spaces
- Providing a welcoming and interactive environment for fellow students
Essential Role Requirements:
- Fluent in Mandarin
- Student at University of York
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic about helping others.
- Reliable and able to commit to scheduled tour times.

The Tours will look to cover:

York City Tour:
- Explore Landmarks: Visit iconic sites such as York Minster, Clifford's Tower, and The Shambles.
- Local Favourites: Discover hidden gems and activities, popular cafes, international supermarkets and student-friendly hangouts.
- Cultural Insight: Learn about York’s rich history and vibrant cultural scene.
- University of York Campus Tour:
- Campus Essentials: Familiarise yourself with key locations like the library, students union, and major academic buildings.
- Student Services: Get to know the facilities and services available to support your student life.
- Student spots: Find the spaces on campus to get food and drink, chill spots to hang out with friends and calming study spaces if you fancy a change from the library!
