Parks Labourer

The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Parks Labourer, in the Community & Recreation Services Department.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager Parks & Horticulture, the Parks Labourer is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the maintenance and upkeep of all municipal parks and open spaces including the maintenance of sports turf, landscape areas, municipal gardens, tree and plant inventories, with a focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement processes.

Qualifications And Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a minimum Grade 12 secondary school diploma with preference given to individuals with a College degree in Turf Management and/or Horticulture, Agricultural or equivalent field. Candidates must have minimum of three (3) years field experience, mechanical aptitude, the ability to operate parks-related equipment and general knowledge of related safety procedures. Candidates must have a valid "D" driver's license with preference given to the candidate with "Z" endorsement. The successful candidate must have previous experience driving a truck with attached trailer. The preferred candidate will have the ability to meet deadlines and work under minimal supervision and have a genuine ability to work in a team environment. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience in the maintenance of sports fields, passive areas, playground areas and grounds. Previous knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, and associated regulations will be considered assets.

The successful candidates must be available to work forty (40) hours each week and the regular hours of work are between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Salary

The Town offers an hourly rate of $30.17 (2024), in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 702.1. This position is subject to a probationary period of sixty (60) days of work.
