Northern Gateway Public Schools invites applications for a Part-time (0.8 FTE) Success Coach to support Harry Gray Elementary School and Oscar Adolphson Primary School, in Valleyview, Alberta.

Job Summary

The Northern Gateway Public School (NGPS) Success Coach will provide addiction and mental health promotion and prevention to children, youth and families through Tier 1 universal programming. Working as part of a team, this position develops and delivers developmentally appropriate, evidence based programming that meets the objectives of the NGPS. Delivery of programming involves large and small group work in schools and community settings, and focuses on increasing knowledge, building skills and fostering abilities that enable others to better their own mental health and wellness. This position works with school staff, parents and community members (who work closely with children and youth) to increase their knowledge, skills and competence related to mental health and illness issues.

Success Coaches work as part of a team to recognize, understand and adapt to the changing needs of their community related to mental health and wellness. They build and maintain strong relationships with children, youth and families.

The NGPS Success Coach also helps to identify and facilitate access for individuals who need referral to specialized addiction and mental health services. The success coach is responsible for ensuring all their documentation complies with HIA (Health Information Act) and FOIPP and ensures compliance with all relevant policies.

This position requires someone who has been formally educated in the health or social sciences field (such as health promotion and prevention, social work, nursing, early childhood development, public health, psychology) and who is knowledgeable about addiction and mental health services.

Qualifications:

  • A related post-secondary degree or diploma in social sciences, or relevant courses and experience
  • At least 2 years working experience in addiction and mental health or health/human services related role preferred (experience as a practicum student considered)

  • provide immediate and direct intervention and crisis management services as needed
  • have community collaboration/networking skills
  • have an understating of the community's economic, cultural and political environment
  • have knowledge of the local community and resources available
  • be capable of maintaining program statistics for purposes of evaluation and assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of programs
  • show resilience and a commitment to personal development
  • be skilled in Google programs and working knowledge of social media
  • be able to plan collaboratively with others to meet the needs of children, youth and families
  • document and maintain records of success coaching activities
  • participate in professional development opportunities, meetings and other ongoing directives from Program Manager

Requirements/assets:

  • All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with approved Alberta Regulatory College, prior or commencing duties where applicable
  • Regulated health professions under Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to show an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties
  • Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation
  • Practice permits can not interfere with NGPS work. NGPS is a prevention and promotion initiative, therefore the role will not meet certain requirements for licensing related to teaching certification or clinical social work or registered psychologist hours
  • Be available to work evenings

Wage:

  • $23.98 per hour

Hours of work:

  • 28 hours per week

Start Date:

  • September 9, 2025 or a mutually acceptable date until June 26, 2026
