This is a general duty statement that covers the range of duties you may be directed to perform. You will need to determine in discussion with your Service Co-ordinator which duties will be required to support a particular person with a disability according to their specific needs and preferences. The Personal Assistant is an employee of One2One Aotearoa and is under the overall direction of the Service Co-ordinator.
1. Lifestyle support
1.1 Provide personal and practical assistance to enable the customer to live their chosen lifestyle.
1.2 Facilitate contact with family, friends and associates.
1.3 Liaise with the customer, other Personal Assistants, whānau and the Service Co-ordinator to ensure consistency and continuity of care.
1.4 Provide accurate, appropriate and timely information to assist the customer in making informed decisions.
1.5 Advocate for and with the customer, where appropriate.
1.6 Respect the customer right to privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
1.7 Immediately inform the Service Co-ordinator of anything which may impact on the customer living arrangement (such as health issues, accidents, or hazards).
2. Health care support
2.1 Arrange medical appointments and collect prescriptions.
2.2 If the customer or legal guardian has given permission, administer or supervise medication to customers who are unable to self-medicate.
2.3 Transport the customer to and from medical and professional appointments and attend as required.
2.4 Monitor the customer general health, including dental hygiene.
3. Daily living support
3.1 Encourage and support independence in activities that the customer is capable of performing.
3.2 Assist with implementing training plans, where required.
3.3 Assist with self-care and general hygiene, where required.
3.4 Assist with washing, ironing and personal presentation, where required.
3.5 Assist with purchase of clothing and footwear, where required.
3.6 Assist with shopping for food, domestic and personal requirements, where required.
3.7 Assist with preparation and cooking of meals, where required.
3.8 Assist with feeding, clearing and washing of dishes, where required.
3.9 Assist with home cleaning duties, where required.
4. Community access support
4.1 Encourage neighbours to get to know and develop friendships with the customer.
4.2 Encourage the customer to become an active and accepted member of the local community.
4.3 Assist with transport arrangements and accompany the customer on outings and activities where appropriate.
