Career Opportunity

The Rail Cars and Shops Department is looking for a Production Clerk!
This position provides support to the office services where you will coordinate and perform general administrative and clerical functions for the Greenwood Shop and Carhouses of the Rail Cars & Shops Department.

What You Will Do

  • Performing a variety of duties to support the Shops and its corresponding budget, payroll for unionized staff and absence reporting
  • Performing a variety of clerical and administrative assignments related to planning, scheduling, progress, overhaul, repair, and modification work in the Production Control area and provides assistance to other sections in Greenwood Shop, as required
  • Maintaining and inputting all data pertaining to component and vehicle overhaul of the Subway Maintenance Systems (SMS)
  • Receiving, issuing and closing Shop Work Orders for work programs, projects and incoming units in an efficient manner
  • Performing general office administrative duties including mail sorting, data entry, maintaining Shop notice boards and assisting the Shop Clerk and Production Control Assistants, as required
  • Composing routine correspondence for review and typing a variety of general and confidential correspondence and reports from handwritten and/or verbal instructions
  • Maintaining an organized file system ensuring compliance with records retention guidelines
  • Participation in the TTC customer service Ambassador Program

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of secondary school education in a relevant discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Excellent typing and keyboarding skills coupled with proficiency in the use of computers and related software applications relevant to the work
  • Knowledge of standard production control techniques including shop work order systems and production/scheduling activities
  • Knowledge of maintenance operations as it relates to rail operations
  • Detail-oriented with strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Sound judgement supported by demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills in order to provide and obtain accurate and timely information
  • Must have or acquire a good knowledge of TTC and departmental policies, procedures and practices relating to the work, including knowledge of SMS and IFS
  • Familiarity with rail vehicle components and terminology
  • Completion of secondary school, or the equivalent, combined with a few years of related work experience
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
