We are looking for an enthusiastic customer focused person to join our team at Hull Register Office.

In this role you will be responsible for producing timely and accurate copy certificates of life events that have been registered in Hull since 1837 through to current day. This includes producing both handwritten certificates as well as printing certificates from electronically stored entries. A lot of our records are stored at the History Centre and this postholder will be required to retrieve the original records from paper registers and return to the Register Office to create certified copies.

Good IT skills are essential with ability to both input details and use systems and databases to identity and retrieve records.

You must have experience of working accurately and methodically and paying particular attention to detail.

In this role you will be responsible for the collection of statutory and non-statutory fees; this includes taking payment and receipting transactions and also ensuring the accurate recording and management of secure stationary used. Numeracy skills with ability to maintain accounts and cash sheets is essential.

In this role you will become conversant with the legislation and guidance surrounding births, deaths, marriages, civil partnership, and citizenship. You will act as a first point of contact for customers providing advice and guidance both over the telephone and face to face as first point of contact at reception. You must have a proven track record of commitment to high levels of customer service and experience of dealing with the public in a tactful and sympathetic manner.

Another element of the role is to attend marriage ceremonies at the Register Office and at other approved venues and ensure the accurate recording on the marriage schedule and in the electronic marriage register. This involves completing legal preliminaries prior to a ceremony, interviewing the couple to confirm current and accurate information prior to completing the registration. Excellent communication skills with an ability to deal with customers from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds is essential in this role.
