About ARU:
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.

About the Role:
StoryLab explores the effects of digital innovation and storytelling on social change, cultural participation and heritage sustainability. We explore how the development and democratisation of existing and emerging creative technologies enable community empowerment, heritage revitalisation, and participatory and sustainable regeneration. We focus on co-creation, as well as speculative and agile design approaches, to create powerful experiences and highly relevant responses to the real-world environment. We experiment with existing and emerging formats such as XR (VR, AR, MR), 360 film, soundscapes, and 3D data visualisation.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow specialising in digital heritage, creative technologies, and immersive storytelling to join StoryLab in the Faculty or Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at ARU. The Research Fellow will contribute to a €3 million Horizon Europe-funded project led by StoryLab at ARU, which aims to promote a more meaningful and democratic use of 3D immersive technologies in Europe, with a particular focus on revitalising endangered heritage and languages.

In addition to working on this project, the Research Fellows will develop new research initiatives aligned with StoryLab’s remit, contribute to writing funding proposals and publications, organise events in collaboration with the team and external partners, and support StoryLab’s PhD community. A willingness to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary research is essential for this role.

Informal enquiries can be made to Fabrizio Galeazzi, Associate Professor at [email protected]
