What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
  • Purchase, receive and check incoming goods, products and equipment
  • Stock items, maintain storage control, and fill stock requisitions and orders
  • Assemble and pack goods and products for distribution and use
  • Reconcile purchasing card statements
  • Provide training, direction and supervision to staff and inmate helpers
  • Update manual and computerized storekeeping databases
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvement and procedural changes
  • Provide training, direction and performance documentation when prioritizing and assigning work to staff and inmates


How do I qualify?

Mandatory Requirement:

  • You possess a valid Forklift Operator's Certificate or able to obtain one upon hire


Specialized Knowledge and Analytical Skills

  • You have knowledge and experience with stock-keeping practices and processes in order to supervise the receipt, storage, recording, control, security and distribution of stock, parts, products and equipment
  • You have knowledge of tracking and inventory control practices and systems to ensure the accurate and up-to-date records
  • You have experience with purchasing processes and practices
  • You understand and can comply with relevant legislation, regulation and policies (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS) to ensure proper handling, mixing, and storage of goods, and to maintain safety and security of stock areas
  • You have computer skills to input data and produce reports


Computer Skills

  • You are able to operate a computer and related software


Communication and Supervisory Skills

  • You have supervisory and training skills to provide instruction to inmate helpers, direct and assign work, as well as inspect completed work
  • You have interpersonal skills to discuss and resolve problems with suppliers and staff
  • You have written communication skills to prepare reports


Problem-Solving and Organizational Skills

  • You have organizational skills to coordinate activities in the stockroom, arrange schedules and re-assign work to meet fluctuating priorities, deliveries, etc.
  • You have problem-solving skills to identify and prevent safety risks concerning stock layout as well as resolve billing issues and discrepancies
