The role
As Team Lead Occupational Health and Safety, Ergonomics and Environment (OHSEE), you will be responsible for ensuring the correct application of OHSEE-related legislation and regulations in the design of our naval vessels. This includes maintainability, Human Machine Interface (HMI) ergonomics, environmental impact, and operational safety both for the ships and the supporting training facilities. You will lead a team of AUE (Arbeitssicherheit, Umweltschutz und Ergonomie) specialists and manage subcontracted work packages. In this position, you are the main contact for internal stakeholders and the customer, ensuring all OHSEE deliverables are met according to planning, budget, and contract.

Key responsibilities:
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the team of OHSEE/AUE specialists, including subcontractors, aligned with contractual deliverables.
  • Managing all deliverables related to Ergonomics, Environmental Protection, and Operational Safety.
  • Preparing and chairing meetings with customer representatives regarding AUE matters, and documenting outcomes.
  • Defining and monitoring the OHSEE planning and budget.
  • Ensuring design compliance with applicable legislation and regulations and advising accordingly.
  • Supporting supplier assessments and verifying compliance with technical specifications.
  • Coordinating subcontracted assessments such as hazard analysis, environmental impact, and ergonomic evaluations.
  • Managing non-conformities and obtaining customer acceptance.
  • Overseeing the verification and validation of OHSEE requirements with the customer and Notified Bodies.
  • Advising stakeholders on OHSEE risks and mitigations for six naval vessels and four training facility systems.

Skills & experience:
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical discipline, with relevant certifications.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of German and maritime OHSEE regulations.
  • Experience managing a team of specialists in a large engineering project environment.
  • A good understanding of shipbuilding systems and the ability to interpret and write technical specifications.
  • Affinity with design compliance, supplier coordination, and complex project environments.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office, SAP, IBM DOORS, and 3DX.
  • Fluency in both German and English (spoken and written).
  • Permanent EU citizenship and a permanent EU passport (requirement due to the military nature of our projects).
  • Candidates with EU (work) visa or with (also) a non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible given the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
