Job Summary
The Early Childhood Educator will provide a quality caring and supportive childcare program to members of the community that addresses their unique childcare needs, meets all regulatory standards required by federal, provincial and municipal governments, and operates within the Childcare Practitioner Occupational Standards and Code of Ethics as defined by the Canadian Childcare Federation.
SUPPORTS NEEDED
Education Program
Plan and prepare a quality program based on the centre's philosophy
Plan, organize and lead daily activities designed to stimulate the intellectual, physical and emotional growth of children
Encourage cooperation and participation of all children in planned activities
Create a safe and secure environment
Liaise with co-workers and other professionals to meet the needs of the children
Child Guidance
Treat each child with dignity, respect, love, sensitivity and care
Use guidance techniques that are age-appropriate, fair, and encourage socially acceptable behaviour
Adhere to the B.C. Childcare Licensing Regulations
Provide interaction with the children as a group and as required on an individual basis
Health and Safety
Observe for signs of ill health upon arrival and throughout the day
Monitor and record signs and symptoms of ill health and inform the Room Supervisor
Implement the scheduled housekeeping duties
Ensure hazardous materials and products are stored and locked in a safe place
Teach health and nutrition, rest habits and personal hygiene
Maintain hygiene practices
Follow the policy for administration of medication
Administer basic First Aid as required
Maintain constant supervision of indoor and outdoor play
Parent Liaison
Maintain a positive liaison with parents
Encourage open communication with parents concerning the needs and progress of their child
Respond to questions concerning policies
Contribute to the monthly parent newsletter
Participate in the planning and implementing of special events, workshops and meetings for parents
Act as a resource person
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Attend centre staff meetings
Ensure weekly timesheets are completed every Thursday or prior to taking time off e.g. vacation leave, Spring break, etc.
Maintains up to date records concerning individual children, attendance, child observations, etc.
Communicate to the Daycare Manager any pertinent information regarding children, parents, staff, program, etc.
Write parent handouts
Be informed of current trends in the ECE field
Abide by the Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual of the Okanagan Indian Band
Abide by the Early Childhood Educators of B.C. Code of Ethics
Work cooperatively and show respect for all other centre staff and programs
Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures
All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services.Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.
Participate in community events as requested

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.
Early Childhood Educator Certification or Diploma
Current First Aid Certificate as per Schedule C of the Childcare Licensing Regulations
Approved with a Certificate from the BC Childcare Registry to work as an ECE Educator
Experience working with children under the age of six, preferably in a daycare centre
Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset
Valid BC driver's license, class 5 and reliable vehicle
Criminal records check with vulnerable sector clearance
Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal Applicants as per section 41 of the Human Rights Code .
