Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Food Services Worker / Barista to join the Vancouver General Hospitals's Retail Food Services team / VGH Bistro. The successful candidate will be self motivated and able to work both independently and in a team setting. This is a CASUAL/ON-CALL posting. We are always recruiting to maintain a robust pool of casual staff. This is a unionized environment/position and all vacancies are posted internally for current employees to apply. As a Food Service Worker / Barista with VCH you will:

• Perform a variety of duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards including:
• • portioning and serving meals,
  • washing and peeling vegetables and fruit,
  • preparing items such as tea, coffee and toast,
  • washing dishes and utensils.
  • portioning desserts and assembling sandwiches and salads,
  • preparing and portioning diet items in accordance with nutritional plans,
  • and measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients by methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing and/or puree.
  • May operate a cash register and related equipment, receive payments and provide change for items purchased
  • Answer customer queries.

• Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Food Safe Certificate Level 1.

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment
