This part time (0.75 FTE) post is available on a fixed-term basis from 1 September 2025 until 31 December 2026, based in the Department of English and Creative Writing, within HASS.
The role
You will be to support the delivery of the Department of English and Creative Writing’s BA programmes. You will be expected to teach a range of undergraduate modules, which will likely include Approaches to Criticism (EAS1032) and Academic English (EAS1040). You may additionally be tasked to convene undergraduate module(s), supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate dissertations, and/or contribute to the effective delivery of postgraduate taught modules, such as the hybrid-delivered postgraduate module Global Classrooms: Health Humanities (HASM031).
The post will include the development and delivery of teaching and learning materials and the assessment of student learning. You will be expected to lead seminars and/or workshops; deliver lectures; assess students’ work through various formats and provide feedback; and potentially supervise student dissertations and/or projects. You may also be asked to contribute to the delivery of postgraduate teaching sessions and/or supervise postgraduate dissertations.
About you
You will:
- Possess sufficient breadth/depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, as demonstrated by a PhD (obtained or nearing completion) in English literature or an equivalent academic area, to develop and deliver teaching and support learning
- Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
- Participate in and develop external networks: for example, to contribute to student recruitment, facilitate outreach work, or build relationships for future activities
- Have evidence of excellent teaching, as identified by peer review, and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond your own teaching
- Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this
