Duties
Provides general maintenance, repair and labour services to support grounds, roads and facilities maintenance; construction and installations; and other general maintenance and repair requirements for the Parks Canada Agency.
This is outdoor, physically demanding work. You will be expected to perform strenuous physical activity effectively and safely, to work and travel in varied terrain and weather conditions and provide and wear sturdy footwear suitable for hiking and working in a mountainous environment. You must be willing and able to spend up to ten days duration in a remote work location, work weekends, holidays and overtime and assist with forest fire suppression, including stand-by and extra-duty if required.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a secondary school diploma or approved alternatives or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Degree equivalency
- Recent and related experience in wilderness recreation;
- Recent and related experience in travelling or working in a remote location;
- Experience in labouring tasks including the use of tools and equipment directly related to backcountry work.
- Recent experience is defined as experience acquired over the last three (3) years (Since 2022).

- Operate a wide variety of tools in a safe manner;

The following qualifications may be applied and/or assessed because they are beneficial in carrying out the duties of the position. They may be used in screening, assessment or determining right fit for this selection process, so please describe how you meet any of the following criteria.
- Copies of current certification will be required at time of interview.
ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS OR EXPERIENCES:
- Completed a resource management or wilderness recreation diploma or at least two years toward a degree in natural sciences;
- Wilderness Orientation First Aid certification;
- Chainsaw use certification and experience;
- Experience working in and around helicopters;
- Training and experience working and travelling with horses.
- Willing and able to perform strenuous physical activity effectively and safely;
- Willing and able to provide and wear sturdy footwear suitable for hiking and working in a mountainous environment;
- Willing and able to spend up to ten days duration in a remote work location;
- Willing and able to assist with forest fire suppression, including stand-by and extra-duty if required.
Conditions of employment
- Obtain and maintain a reliability security clearance;
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
- Will be required to undergo and pass pre-employment and periodic medical checks;
- Willing and able to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
- Willing and able to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
- Willing and able to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
