MEDICAL MALPRACTICE PARALEGAL

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Serve as primary contact for all new med mal calls and drop ins
• Prepare clear and succinct summaries of potential claims for attorneys' review
• Schedule client appointments and attend with attorney as needed
• Initiate opening of all new med mal files
• Organize and maintain case files (paper and electronic)
• Update/maintain Case Status List
• Receive existing client calls and handle appropriately
• Transcribe all recorded statements (heavy on medical terminology)
• Compose medical chronologies from records
• Prepare notice letters to medical insurers and maintain communication throughout case pendency
• Draft demand letters and offers of settlement
• File lawsuits and other documents electronically and/or traditionally
• Coordinate service of lawsuits on defendants
• Draft discovery requests/responses
• Assist with preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations and/or trials
• Other office duties as assigned
  
  

Qualifications:

• Previous legal experience (preferred)
• Familiarity with medical terminology (preferred)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Deadline and detail-oriented
• Effective time management skills
• Ability to produce quality work under stress and deadlines
• Proficiency in technology (specifically Microsoft Office)
• Case Management Software (preferred)
