The Position
Mine Planning Engineer
Job Summary
Based at our office in Lompoc, California we are hiring a Mine Planning Engineer to develop medium range and life of mine plans, by optimizing the known reserve potential primarily for the West & Mexico Hubs.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop life-of-mine plans from reserve models and business forecasts
  • Develops and is responsible for all aspects of the life of mine planning, reporting, development, and execution of mine plans including mine safety, quality projection, equipment recommendation, volumetrics, resources, sequencing, scheduling, and environmental considerations
  • Develop and recommend safe traffic routing for medium and short-term
  • Develop capital needs within mine phasing for medium-range capital forecasting
  • Determine optimal heavy mobile equipment fleet based on production
requirements, site-specific conditions, ramp and bench configurations
  • Prepare monthly crude materials requirement planning report and communicate results
Assist in the preparation of budgets and stripping planning/capital requests Work with Sr. Operations Analyst and with Improvement teams
  • Other related duties as assigned by management
  • Able to travel to sites in West & Mexico
Key Competencies:
  • Demonstrated high proficiency in MS Access and MS Excel
  • Good knowledge of GIS and survey software
  • Proven ability to learn and effectively use Surpac Modeling Software or related
  • Proven ability to establish positive relationships with existing workforce
  • Conducted one’s self as a champion for change and demonstrated success in supporting a continuous improvement culture
  • Proven ability to be an integral part of a mining management team
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and facilitate work through peers, superiors, and subordinates
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with different timelines Proficient and effective verbal and written communication skills
Requirements:
  • BS degree - preferably in engineering, mining, or geological engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years supporting a mining operation
  • Operations experience a plus
Location: SE USA Preferred with travel to sites as needed (approximately 40%)
Environment:
  • Field work required, ability to work in a hot environment or underground in a cool dark environment
  • Able to work in an office environment
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and carry a drill-core box
