Sample Management Technician (f/m/d)

Avantor is seeking a motivated Sample Management Technician (f/m/d) in Basel. In this role, you will handle our customer’s clinical samples and ensure their proper administration and storage.
This role is a permanent, full-time position, based at our pharma customer’s site in Basel. Next to the base salary, we offer regulated working hours, an annual bonus, training opportunities, and a company pension scheme. Interested? Let’s talk!
Working hours: Monday-Friday, starting between 07:00-08:00 and then 8 hours daily (40 hours/week)
What we’re looking for
Education: Completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology or a related field
Experience: First hands-on experience with managing biological/human samples
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of GxP and rules of conduct in a biological laboratory is a must. Good know-how of GCP would be an asset.
- Experience in computerized system validation following SOPs and guidelines is desired
- Good IT user knowledge of Excel and SAP is an advantage
- Fluency in English is a must, German proficiency is an advantage
- Detail-oriented, quality focus, and structured working style
- Ability to take initiative and collaborate with our customer to continuously expand and improve our services
How you will thrive and create an impact
- Manage the clinical sample life cycle, including national and international shipments: reception, shipping, storage, and disposal following GCP guidelines
- Manage frozen (-80°C or -20°C) and room temperature samples: unpack, log, store, dispose, and maintain chain of custody
- Track and reconcile clinical samples using the customer's tracking systems
- Perform regular quality controls and inventory of samples, including database updates
- Act as a first point of contact for solving all sample logistics and admin issues; transfer samples to the appropriate labs or to storage facilities as required
- Support general laboratory operations activities including restocking (e.g. lab consumables, reagents, supplies), equipment maintenance (pH meters, balances, plate washers), and glass washing/autoclaving
- Assist with administrative tasks related to laboratory upkeep (e.g. inventory management, lab operational checklists, equipment logs, and file records maintenance)
- Prepare general lab solutions and assist with aliquoting of samples
- Always listen to customer concerns and actively think about how laboratory support processes can be improved
- General order and cleanliness, strict adherence to EHS and GCP regulations
