About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic research group led by Dr Jie Yang in the Department of Oncology at the University of Oxford. The group conducts research on T cell immunity and immunosuppression in cancer, with focus on understanding and enhancing immunity for the prevention of cancer development and spread. This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven individual to contribute to cutting-edge research spanning fundamental T cell biology, cancer immunotherapy, and immune-based cancer prevention strategies.
The postholder will investigate how cancer cells manipulate local and systemic immune environments to evade immune surveillance and will develop translatable therapeutic strategies to restore and enhance anti-cancer immunity. You will manage your own academic research and administrative tasks, adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques and experimental protocols. You will contribute with ideas for new research projects and for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers. You will also contribute to laboratory management tasks and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
This post is based at the Old Road Campus Research Building (ORCRB), Oxford, OX3 7DQ and it is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis for three years.
About you
You will hold a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant discipline such as Immunology, Cancer Biology, Cancer Immunology or related field. You will have a good publication record including first author level publication in peer-reviewed journals. You will be passionate about Cancer Immunology, T cell Biology and translational research and will have good knowledge of these subjects to contribute to established research programmes. Excellent project management abilities to coordinate research activities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced research environment are essential together with strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and experience or interest in bioinformatics and in vivo work (holding a personal licence) would be advantageous.
