Duties

  • Operate the Global Combat Service Support - Army (GCSS-A) system to order material to support parachute repair operations.
  • Maintain repair parts in a controlled environment and ensure supplies are properly accounted for and disposed of IAW with applicable Army supply regulations.
  • Pick-up and turn-in supplies from/to the support Supply Support Activity and process receipts into Global Combat Service Support - Army (GCSS-A).
  • Process unserviceable parachutes and other material for turn-in through the supply system.
  • Generate unserviceable turn-in documentation and coordinates with unit supply and installation transportation office for material going to Defense Logistics Agency - Disposition Services (DLA-DS).
  • Inspect and identify parachutes for serviceability in accordance with (IAW) with applicable regulations.
  • Repair parachutes that meet the repair standards by replacing felt pads, tacking pads in place, or through using light duty sewing machines to effect repairs.

  • This position requires a NACI background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires business travel/TDY up to 5% of the time.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Fabric Worker without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common repairs to personnel cargo and extraction parachutes. I can operate hand tools and shop equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires standing or sitting positions and requires reaching, bending, stooping, overhead arm movement, and continuous use of arms, hands and fingers in pulling and positioning materials. Lifting of items generally not exceeding 75 pounds is required.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside shop area that is adequately lighted and heated. Employee is exposed to noise of machines and is subject to physical injury when using sewing machines, electrically operated cutters, hot wax pot, and hot searing device. Is subject to cuts, bruises, punctures, scratches and other minor injuries from sharp tools and materials. Is exposed to dust and lint from fabrics and fumes from glues, preservatives and cleaners. Such hazards and working conditions are considered normal and have been built into the grading standards of the occupation.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
