The Technical Apprentice Role
Working as part of the venue Technical Team you will support all productions and events programmed, ensuring their technical requirements are achieved. This role is part of the wider technical team that provides a professional, enabling and efficient service for all customers and visitors to ATG Entertainment’s venues.
Throughout the apprenticeship you will be assigned to a venue. You will also be expected to complete short secondments to other ATG venues during your apprenticeship. It is therefore essential that you are happy to move during the apprenticeship to gain a broader range of experiences, develop a wider network in the industry and encourage you to seek out job opportunities in all ATG’s theatres. All travel and accommodation for secondments away from your base venue will be paid for by ATG Entertainment.
Key responsibilities
- Work as part of the technical team in your home venue and the venues you are seconded to.
- Actively participate in the welcoming of visiting production staff to the venue, ensuring they are treated appropriately, and support and assist them to the best of your ability to deliver their show/event.
- Undertake show or event get-in/out tasks relating to stage, counterweight flying, lighting, rigging or audio under the direction of the venue technical team.
- Undertake show operation duties such as, lighting/sound desk operation, follow spot operation, stage and fly plots.
- Undertake maintenance duties around the venue under the direction of the venue technical team.
- Work collaboratively as a team member, contributing to a positive and respectful working environment for everyone.
- Always Work safely, proactively identify risks to yourself, other colleagues and customers health, safety or security and take appropriate actions to maintain the safest possible environment for your colleagues, visiting companies and customers.
- Always take pride in your working environment ensuring that work areas are clean, tidy and safe.
- Attend training courses internally and externally relevant to your apprenticeship.
- Attend industry trade shows and events to increase your knowledge of the wider industry.
- Complete the learning pathway of your apprenticeship, actively working for 20% of your working week to achieve this.

We are looking for candidates who:

- Enjoy working practically and have a hands-on approach to using equipment to resolve challenges.
- Have an interest in live entertainment and working in the technical theatre industry.
Production Technician - Creative Venue Pathways Level 3 Standard
Apprentices learn the skills they need on the job with the guidance of a development coach who is an expert from industry. You’ll finish your apprenticeship with a recognised qualification, valuable industry experience, money, and substantial opportunities for promotion.
You will be expected to deliver projects throughout the apprenticeship. Each project would involve research, knowledge and may be submitted in writing, a presentation or professional discussion.
Seminars and Qualifications:
All CVT apprentices are enrolled onto a vendor qualification called the ABTT Bronze award. This will come with training sessions – covering the following:
Training Session 1 – Manual Handling & Health and Safety at Work Act Develop an understanding of manual handling, injuries and the UK theatre code of conduct.
Training Session 2 – Electrical Fundamentals To develop an understanding of basic electricity
Training Session 3 – Knots & Splicing Develop a basic understanding into knots commonly used in theatre
Training Session 4 – Fundamentals of Flying An introduction to manual flying systems within the theatre
Training Session 5 – Safe Use of Temporary Access Equipment Understanding safe handling of Access Equipment and covering relevant terminology
Training Session 6 – Revision session on ABTT Exam ABTT mock questions and covering what has previously been learnt in preparation for the exam

Things to consider
You need to live in London or have a way of commuting to and from London from potentially late nights. You need to be 18 or over as there is late nights as part of role.
